Sunday, August 25th, began under clouds and a bit of a chill, but the sun pushed its way through in time for our gathering. Pastor Devon, who wore a red Hawaiian shirt for the occasion, approached the water playfully stating he would walk upon it. He then dove in with a splash and it seemed the sun was even brighter when he stood up, shining his smile upon everyone.
His father, Pastor Arnold, of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Jericho, joined Pastor Devon for the baptismal ceremony. After a brief service and readings, those wishing to be baptized approached the waters and witnessed as each took his or her turn receiving this very special blessing. The baptismal ceremony concluded with Pastor Arnold re-dedicating his own son.
Men, children and women were baptized. The camera was set aside to respect privacy, though we confess that it gave in to the temptation of a perfectly timed quick snap. That photograph is being used with permission.
You might think that such an occasion would demand a solemn atmosphere, but the mood was as bright as sunlight and all rejoiced in the splishing and splashing, embracing the joyous occasion with the free spirit of little children. In a word, it was splendid.
